About this event:
Loughborough’s Market Place came alive on Sunday 10 August 2025 as thousands gathered for the annual Loughborough Mela – a free celebration of culture, creativity and community spirit.
From the morning, visitors enjoyed a bustling marketplace with stalls offering handmade crafts, jewellery, fashion, sweet treats and international street food. The event was officially opened at 12 noon by the Mayor of Charnwood, before an afternoon of music, dance and cultural performances filled the stage.
The highlights:
Highlights included the energetic group Hum Hey Hindustani, alongside a vibrant programme showcasing the rich traditions of Loughborough’s diverse communities.
Families and friends were treated to an array of activities throughout the day. The sound of live music and dance brought people together in front of the main stage, while local makers inspired creativity through arts and crafts demonstrations. Stalls serving food from around the world filled the streets with delicious aromas, and the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere ensured there was something for all ages to enjoy.
The event was organised by The Mela Group, funded in part by a Charnwood Borough Council community grant, and delivered with the help of volunteers, artists and local organisations.
Loughborough Mela continues to be one of the region’s most vibrant celebrations of cultural diversity, bringing people together through food, performance and shared experiences.
