Pigeon Perfect
This exhibition has been created by the Safe Well Happy Group, working with Lisa Denham and Nita Rao.
Over the last 6 moths they have been learning about the history and symbolism of this often maligned bird. They explored the textures, colours and sounds of pigeons to develop this exhibition.
Pigeons are historically significant, known for their unique navigation abilities Homing pigeons in the wars, carried critical messages across enemy lines. They were our first text messages. With speeds of over 50mph they can cover 500-700 miles in a single day. They can distinguish between letters, as well as being able to recognise human faces and voices. They are incredibly social, they pair for life and grieve deeply.
There is more to explore with this project. We have developed many more ideas than we could create in 6 months. And we are hoping to continue with this project, making plans for the future.
