Connected Threads - Session 1

  • Charnwood Arts 27 Rectory Place Loughborough, England, LE11 1UW United Kingdom (map)

Connected Threads

Connected Threads is about making textiles together for a project by Ruth Singer about Mary Linwood - Leicester’s forgotten embroidery artist pioneer. During the workshop, participants will learn about cord making. We will join donated woollen tapestry threads into long lengths and then using a cord-making technique, combine them together. These cords will contribute towards a giant skein of thread which will be showcased in Ruth’s exhibition about Mary Linwood at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery in September 2025.

Each thread symbolises women who did embroidery whose names are not remembered.

By working together, we bring those women back together into a connected community of thread. Everyone who contributes will be recorded on a poster which will become the label or thread wrapper for the giant skein when it is displayed in Leicester Museum and Art Gallery.

This workshop is free and suitable for beginners.

More information about Ruth Singer’s project can be found here: “Rediscovering Mary Linwood”
