Between the Words: Writing in Silence, Murmuring in Echoes
In this solo exhibition by Lulu Ao, language is not merely written or spoken; it is spatial, fragmented, and responsive. Through text-based installations that incorporate hanging scripts, mirrored surfaces, and shifting scales of visibility, Between the Words invites viewers to engage with language as a physical and reflective experience. Words are scattered, suspended, and partially hidden, prompting the audience to read not only with the eyes but through movement and presence.
The exhibition draws upon Lulu’s transcultural background and her ongoing exploration of the visual and material dimensions of language. Influenced by both Eastern calligraphic aesthetics and Western conceptual approaches, her work questions the fixity of meaning and emphasizes the silences that surround communication. Language becomes a landscape where memory, perception, and ambiguity co-exist.
Between the Words presents a quiet space for reflection. It invites viewers to consider how language operates beyond communication, as a site of interpretation, resonance, and open-ended thought.
