Quorn is situated a few miles from Loughborough. The village's name was shortened from Quorndon in 1889, to avoid postal difficulties owing to its similarity to the Derbyshire village of Quarndon. Quorndon Hall, off Meynell Road on the edge of the village, became the home of renowned fox hunter Hugo Meynell in 1753. He established his pack of hounds there, where it continued under later masters until 1905, thus giving a name to the famous Quorn Hunt. A Royal Navy ship, HMS Quorn is named after the village, as is Quorn, South Australia. Quorn also forms an important part of the steam Great Central Railway, which also has stations in Loughborough and Rothley.
