New Walk Museum and Art Gallery is situated within the historic New Walk area of Leicester. In 1849 the Literary and Philosophical Society formally presented to the town its various collections, which have grown and developed over the last 160 years into one of the premier museums in the region.
Leicester's oldest museum has wide-ranging collections spanning the natural and cultural world. A family friendly day-out, displays include Egyptians, Wild Space, World Arts and Leicester’s Fine Art collections.
Our Exhibitions programme features works from our collections and touring exhibitions from National Museums. Our art gallery displays include works by Modern and Old Masters including works by Hogarth and Francis Bacon.
New Walk Museum and Art Gallery welcomes people with disabilities. Please advise on booking if you are a wheelchair user.
New Walk Museum and Art Gallery is approximately ten minutes walk from Leicester City Centre and Leicester train station and accessed along the pedestrianised New Walk. The Museum has an excellent Cafe for morning coffee and snacks from 10.30 - 4.00. There are many other bars, bistros and restaurants nearby.
