Loughborough Students Union

Loughborough Students' Union is one of the very best in the country and is one of the only unions to be owned and managed by the students.

It was named top in the country in the 2014 Whatuni Student Choice Awards, which are voted for exclusively by students. Loughborough was also rated second for the Union’s clubs and societies and for the University’s facilities.

The day-to-day running of the Union is carried out by a team of annually elected student officers, and it offers a variety of support services, over 100 clubs and societies and a packed programme of social events to suit all people’s tastes.

A key part of the Union is fundraising. Loughborough Rag is the biggest student fundraising organisations in the country, regularly raising more than £1,000,000 a year. In 2013-14 it raised a phenomenal £1,411,510 for charity and good causes.

Student volunteers take part in street collections and organise a variety of events to raise money. In recent years money has been donated to national charities including the NSPCC and Cancer Research UK, as well as local charities such as the Charnwood Shelter Project.

The Union also enables students to work in the local community through its Action team. In 2013-14 it had more than 2,000 volunteers who spent around 28,000 hours in total working with children, the elderly, people with learning difficulties and the physically disabled, helping to build up links between local residents and the student population.
