Minato Haiku 2014

Information

Charnwood Arts has been invited by Yuko Ijichi of the Creative Art Executive Committee in Minato City, Tokyo, to work with them on an exciting new 'virtual locality' writing initiative.

This enterprise links to Charnwood Arts's forthcoming People Making Places 2020 project and focuses on the writing of haiku but in a very specific context.

Yuko and the organising committee are inviting UK writers to submit two haiku, one on each of two themes, and written in English. Both themes relate to Minato City, Tokyo.

The first theme is The Tokyo Tower and theme two should be inspired by particular places around Minato. Works should contain the names of places, hills, landmarks, buildings, areas (towns) and flora of Minato City.

The deadline for receipt of haiku is the 1st March 2014.

Unless you are lucky enough to be there in person, you can see the Tower and Minato City in various on-line ways.

20 entries will be selected to become part of a screen based motion graphic featuring the selected haiku and images from the area. This will be created by local artists/designers as part of an exhibition to be held in Minato City from 22nd-30th March.

Selection of works will be conducted by Isamu Hashimoto. Many other works in Japanese will form the full exhibition.
