Katha Kahe so Kathak

Information

A Charnwood Arts - Kala Kahani/South Asian Literature In English Initiative event in Loughborough.

Professional Leicester based kathak dancer Nilima Devi has dedicated this work to one of the 20th century's great Kathak poets - composer and guru Pandit Sunderial Gangani of North India.

Katha Kahe so Kathak presents some of Pandit Gangani's finest, most imaginative poems written in the ancient Braj language. It explores expressive elements of Kathak including pada, sawaiya, thumri and a poetic form of ginati, eleborating on unique technical compositions rarely experienced by audiences outside of India.

Choreographed and performed by Nilima Devi, one of the UK's leading Kathak dance exponents, Katha Kahe so Kathak features the western storyteller Lisa Watts and an ensemble of live musicians from India and the UK.
