Film Project with Parthiv Shah

Information

Charnwood Arts welcomed film maker, photographer and cultural worker Parthiv Shah to a packed week of projects and activities in the borough.

Parthiv's first visit brought us a showing of two of his documentary films exploring the art of two Indian village artists and the world's reaction to them. We also exhibited Parthiv's latest photographic work, a sensitive and powerful documentary of Ahmedabad's redundant mill workers.

Parthiv's second visit, a week long residency, resulted in a short documentary video about the local hosiery industry, an installation at Loughborough University and interviews on Sabras Radio and work with members of local Gujarati and Punjabi communities to produce an exhibition (and a book) for India about people's impressions of living in England.

The illustration shows a page from Charnwood Artslink with a giant painting from the installation (by Kevin Ryan) based on one of Parthiv's photographs and work from Parthiv's Ahmedabad exhibition.

Daniel Newman and Kevin also worked on a film about the demise of the Loughborough Sock industry.
