The pocket has always been a personal and a private place to store precious items.
Charnwood Arts’ Big Knitting Group presented an exhibition made up from pockets that were sent in from far and wide. We invited people to submit pockets and include the pocket’s ‘story’. This story was reproduced as a ‘label’ for each exhibit in the show.
The exhibition explored the past life of the pocket with items from Leicestershire County Museum Collections and also the future of the pocket, with displays created by schoolchildren and interactive displays.
This project started in 2009 and culminated with the hugely popular exhibition in May 2010 called ‘Make A Pocket Or Two’ at Charnwood Museum.
