Charnwood Arts celebrated World Community Arts Day 2015 in style with the launch of The ArtsHouse, a new centre for groups and individuals to engage in community based arts, craft and media activity.

Based in Loughborough and initiated and run by Charnwood Arts, The ArtsHouse was declared "open for business" on World Community Arts Day itself - Tuesday February 17th.

This exciting new centre is located in an imposing Edwardian house at 29 Granby Street in Loughborough, right next door to the Charnwood Arts offices and meeting room. The ArtsHouse is opposite the gates to the beautiful Queen's Park, a stone's throw away from Charnwood Museum and Gallery and right next door to the library.

There are four main activity rooms - two for painting, crafts, writing groups, drawing and meetings, one fully equipped with computers, and a making and media room linked to a small room with an animation rostrum.

As well as this there is a kitchen, a relaxing pocket garden and a small 'chill out' room.

A wide variety of community and arts groups are already signed up to be part of The ArtsHouse.

Among these are "Write Stuff’, a health and well being related writing group; Raw Art, an arts and Mental Health group, an arts and media for young people and a cultural and heritage group for home-schooled children.

There is also an Asian Ladies Craft Group, an Open Media and Arts Group for young people, project groups from the Charnwood Great War Centenary Project and the already famous Big Knitting Group as well as the Mutual Craft Company.

But it doesn't stop there. Initial plans for a number of new groups include the Artslink editorial group, various placement groups new children’s arts sessions and a regular "Hack Space", plus groups working on the Charnwood Arts flagship People Making Places project.

We are always open to hearing new ideas from the community. If you have an idea about how you or your group could become part of The ArtsHouse, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
