Spark Children's Festival 2013

Leicester’s The Spark Children’s Arts Festival began in 2003, in response to a need for more live performance arts for children in the region. The Spark is now in its 11th year and is one of the UK’s largest independent arts festivals specifically for young people. The festival runs annually for the first two weeks in June and brings exceptional international and national artists to the region for a fortnight of theatre, music, dance, puppetry, poetry and art. All events and activities are specially developed for children aged 0-13 and their families.

And it’s playtime for families again as The Spark Festival returns to Leicester between 29th May and 9th June. The children’s arts festival is promising a more playful festival than ever with a feast of events for all ages taking place across the city. Discover groundbreaking dance theatre, quirky puppetry, innovative work for under fives, digital arts and urban arts workshops. Leicester will host hundreds of events across twelve days with activities and performances in theatres, parks, museums, galleries, community centres, libraries and schools.

The Spark marks a time in the year when the city offers younger children rich and lasting cultural experiences – live performance of all kinds, visual arts, digital arts and street theatre, brought by a host of national and international artists. Their work is often innovative and experimental, but equally can be around familiar themes and stories – what unites the work is its quality and its direct appeal to children. The two-week long festival creates a sense of excitement and celebration.

This year’s festival includes two events that are coming to Loughborough.
