All Fired Up

All Fired Up

Sat 12th February, 2011 by Art Zone

On the 12th February 2011 Young people from the ArtZone art club took part in a Raku firing workshop with Bridget McVey at the Pottery Cottage on the Loughborough University campus. The young artists glazed biscuit fired pots then loaded them into the Raku kiln. After about 40 mins the kiln was unloaded with very long tongs. The pots were dumped into metal bins and saw dust was thrown ontop. A lid was then put ontop to let them smoke away for a while. The pots were then fished out and put into cold water. The last stage was to scrub them clean. As you can see from the gallery the results were fabulous. ArtZone runs every Saturday morning at its usual location of Charnwood Museum and is supported by Leicestershire County Council.

There will be a similar Raku workshop coming up soon designed for parents and children over eight at the Pottery Cottage under the Create Too banner. Watch this creative space.
